CHANGING THE WORLD FROM A DENTAL CHAIR: Diversity and inclusion are keys to the future
Even as a kid, the only time that I remember having felt excluded is that one time in elementary school, a school for gifted kids when the teacher asked all the « white » kids to stand up. I looked at my skin and stood up. She then approached me very gently and asked me to sit down. She held me, even smelled me, saying that I was just like them, but I wasn’t white, I was Asian.
Please, do not jump at fences. That may have been a lack of judgment, but I did not feel any bad intentions from it; it was just a fact, the truth, I was an Asian boy but I was also just like them!
That’s how I’ve felt my whole life, as one of them, one of us. That’s how I see people and life, as one of us, as we can get along and share part of a journey. Diversity is a great effort of inclusion but, based on my experience of forty-some years in this country:
“ It’s up to you to fit in.”
- Dr. Bak Nguyen, from CHANGING THE WORLD FROM A DENTAL CHAIR
Remember that I am an entrepreneur by nature and I am not shy of speaking my mind. I am grateful to all our forefathers and foremothers who made this country what it is today. That’s the reason why I was the youngest person who received a LYS Grand Homage, because I embody the next phase of Diversity, the one where labels are no longer necessary.
That’s in the DNA of Mdex, at its core. To stand up and make a difference, to create value for all of us, to share a vibe and shape the future together. To those with the same mindset, Mdex is an oasis of inspiration and a place to find solid ground. Strangely enough, those are also among the first people with progressive ideas to improve the lives of the people around them…
