PROFESSION HEALTH: Success is a process, it can be learned and mastered
Dear colleagues, let me share with you my story. I have been blessed to be able to do for a living what I had wished to be when I was in high school: dentistry. Although I had dreamed about being an inspector, a firefighter and an astronaut, my thoughts and heart would always come back to one concept that got me passionate: the privilege to help people in a very concrete way. At that time, I did not find myself particularly gifted to work with my hands or interact with people.
In fact, I thought I was quite clumsy and way too shy to be able to work with people all day long, especially at close range such as the one required in dentistry. However, my parents always believed in my capacities to become whoever I wanted to be and they would always encourage me to hold on to my dreams.
Why did they always support me? Because of their unconditional love. Although I was not a particularly unpleasant young man, I certainly did more than one thing that would make them angry.
I did not like authority because, like anyone else, I wanted freedom. I wanted to do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Unfortunately, human beings need guidance and rules in order to have productive lives. This, I would understand soon enough.

This moment of lucidity occurred during my first year in dental school. I was now in the major leagues, living in a different city, far away from the nest. This would prove to be a tough experience for me but one that would make me a more mature individual, and more ready to be able to join the future health care workforce.…
