EMPOWERING WOMEN: Learning from a power couple
« Behind every great man there is a great woman. »
We have all heard this sentence countless times. And so have I. To be very honest with you, as a young woman having spent her student years aspiring to an egalitarian and quite idealistic society, I had always had an issue with this idea of « behind ».
Why would a great woman need to be standing « behind » her man? What did that even mean anyway? This interrogation couldn’t help but pop up in my mind whenever someone quoted that famous saying. And it did so until one crucial turning point in my life, which made me reevaluate my perspective on the matter: the moment I entered the business world.
Actually, I must say that I ended up in the business world almost by accident, as it wasn’t quite in my plans. But life put on my path a certain dental clinic that happened to later become the Mdex & Co corporation.
There, I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Bak before the effervescence wave that made him become the most in vogue dentist the web has ever seen. Next thing I knew, I was working for him as his International Counsellor, Complex Mdex had become Mdex & Co, and I was dealing with Caribbean embassies in Ottawa alongside the Mdex delegation. And the rest is history.
I cannot start enumerating all the things I’ve learned alongside Dr. Bak. For me, he is a mentor, opening my eyes to a whole new dimension, a parallel universe: the world of business, the “hustle” of entrepreneurship, and the art of finance.
